Mixing Tradition with the Exotic

Garden Tapestry

A Room with a Pillar...

More Interesting Arrangments

Mixing Tradition with the Exotic

On the shelf, notice a small miniature design stylized with dried corns, beans, etc.

Down below, an exotic arrangement, using an assortment of exotic foliages, flowers, etc.

Just because a setting incorporates traditional furnishings, doesn't mean that you can't use exotic or unusual combinations of materials......

The lush red and green work very well against the woodtones and neutral white wall color........

The design at the lower right on the small table offsets well, the wall shelving to the upper left......... Here floral art is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it is also quite utilitarian as well......providing greatly needed visual balance to what might otherwise be a rather empty, bleak space.................It provides through color and form, a much needed visual stimulation to transform the mundane into something special..................

Garden Tapestry

Dried and pressed flowers picked from the garden.........

If we can enjoy tapestries as works of art in our homes, we certainly are not limited as to the contents and make-up of those tapestries.

Consider taking some very natural materials and incorporating them into keepsakes that you will enjoy and remind you of your outdoors gardening.

A Room With A Pillar...

Why waste a perfectly good pillar?

Seriously, there are times when you are left with structural elements in your home that while important to the overall well being of your space, contribute little if anything to the aesthetics.......

A pillar is one of these........

The floral artist takes advantage of the pillar for a Japanese style Ikebana floral design, to hang up above.........

In contrast to the rather disciplined pillar piece, we have a rather wild and spontaneous design on a low table using Calla lilies.......

Callas usually hold up best in a water base (as opposed to foam).....In this arrangement a pinholder and water base provide the necessary structural source. Foliage is used to help cover the mechanics........

The calla lilies twist and turn, drawing our attention up from the base, towards the pillar..........

Overall a nice duo, and a study in contrast of shapes, forms and materials........

More Interesting Arrangements

An interesting combination of things here, displaying the versatility of floral media.....

Alphabet cards of pressed flower petals...........

A flower cake.......

Notice that on the flower cake, flowers are placed in very specific layers with one specific color per layer........The overall composition is placed into an elongated tray

Also on the table are several compositions of branches, berries and wicker......These are rather intricate, visually complex and worth examination......

When one checks out the designs here, and compares them to the others in this exhibition, one can't help but notice the great range of variation that floral artists may engage in their chosen media, both in terms of materials, scale, size and form....

Named by the artist....."Harmony."

This is a drawer filled with colorful potpourri.........

Although it is a potpourri presentation, the style is what floral artists would call pave.......

Pave technique is when a floral designer places flowers very close to each other keeping very distinct sections with specific colors and/or texture per section.......Although the sections are distinct, they all contribute to the overall unity of the design........

Several miniature topiaries and a small arrangement help create balance on the top of the furniture.....

Very pretty.....very unusual......We hope you found this one of interest!!
