My Passion For Teaching Floral Art. (Or.. Why Do I Do What I Do?)

I am often asked, "So why do you do what you do?"

Sure, it was an accident of birth that initially got me into floral designing......But my family was very fair. No one insisted that I stay in the field. In fact, my family indicated that they would be supportive no matter what field I chose to be in.....It was my choice to become a floral design expert and educator.

I love the floral field, and I have a passion for teaching floral art... I have this passion for a number of reasons...

First of all, you can't beat the media we deal with....Gorgeous Flowers!

Floral designers work with natural media. Flowers.......It doesn't get any better than that. While other artists have to make oils, or glass or stone look good, floral artists enjoy using living flowers a media created by the Ultimate Creator. You can't beat playing with flowers in your everyday career.

The Japanese call flower arranging, "ikebana." The term suggests making that by arranging flowers, that we are making the flowers come more alive...and enhancing an already beautiful media.

Flowers Make People Feel Happy!

Research has indicated that flowers have a positive effect upon people. They make people feel better. They make people feel happy.

Not only are flowers the perfect gift, they help to shape space and create an atmosphere. They help people express emotions that are hard to put into words. They make our environments more natural and much more pleasant....

The latest literature has really indicated all kinds of benefits from having florals in your environment... ranging from reducing depression, to making people more sociable. There are psychological benefits even when the flowers are sent in a sympathy context. The bottom line is that flowers make people much happier than they otherwise may be...

As a floral design expert, and educator, I have flowers around me all the time. They make me happy. In turn I am gratified knowing that my florals and floral art makes others happy as well!

I Teach The People Who in Turn Make Other Folks Happy!

I teach the people who in turn spread more floral happiness!

It is a multiplier effect. Every student that graduates from my school in turn uses the skills and techniques that they learn from me, to make other people's life better!

I call it, "making the world a better place, one floral design and one customer at a time."

It is very gratifying to me to Know that the skills that I teach enable my graduates to make the world a happier and a better place....

The Satisfaction of Providing A Terrific Educational Experience...........My Role As A Floral Design Expert / Floral Educator....

The teaching field is often a very tough field. Besides the pressures of constantly preparing lessons and presenting, there are all kinds of other issues that come into play... Issues of enforcing societal and political exptectations, and dealing with all kinds of pressures that have nothing to do with the actual act of "teaching," These often make the teaching field unpleasant in many ways.....

I love the satisfaction in being able to return to the actual skills and craft of teaching...The satisfaction of curriculum planning and presentation is at its best in an ideal learning environment.

It is gratifying to me to craft an educational experience that many of my students tell me is one of the best times they have ever had in their lives....My school, Rittners Floral School in Boston, MA. is considered legendary, one of the finest of its kind in North America., and rightly so.....
